Hundreds of English and literacy educators from around Australia descended on Pullman on the Park, Melbourne for The Australian Literacy Educators’ Association (ALEA) National Conference 2019. Entegy Partner, Evise worked with the conference organisers to provide a cost-effective, sustainable technology solution to highlight the 200 session program, speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors and connect delegates through networking throughout the event.

The ALEA National Conference is an opportunity to distribute the latest research and information on literacy education. Delegates have the chance to hear from renowned keynote speakers, national and local classroom teachers and networking with their peers.
Julie Shepherd, Co-Convenor (ALEA Victorian State Director) says working with a volunteer committee with various levels of capacity and involvement in the event is difficult but also rewarding.
“Meeting the committee’s expectation and being able to deliver key outcomes is challenging but such an achievement to deliver an event for the industry.
“The conference was a powerful statement and, was very scientifically relevant and made a political stance regarding the content, while still having all the feel-good elements.” said Julie.
A complex program managed with personalised schedules
The event app provided ALEA the opportunity to build the multi-stream program with ease and allowed changes to sessions, presentation titles and speakers to be undertaken in the lead up to the event and on-site. Any last-minute changes were sent to delegates via push notifications.
Julie explains the personalised schedule feature allowed delegates to easily dissect the complex program, running 9 concurrent sessions at any given time.
“The ability to create a personalised schedule was fantastic! It helped delegates create a bespoke experience at the event by attending the sessions that were of great interest and professionally relevant to them.” explained Julie.
A digital community for networking before, during and after the event
Creating a digital community and providing a platform for before, during and after the event was a key requirement for ALEA. Julie says having the in-app activity feed and messaging features delivered this.
“The activity feed was excellent, it really encouraged delegates to engage with each other and speakers.” said Julie.
Post-event engagement within the app was strong. One attendee commented on the activity wall several weeks after the conference how she took ideas from a particular presentation and applied them with her students, leaving feedback “Thank you so much for your inspiration!”

A more sustainable event
ALEA has reduced the amount of printing for conference programs with a large percentage of delegates using the app exclusively.
“We had some printed programs available, however, had some left at the end. The continuation of the conference branding in the app was fantastic. It looked great and was visually clear that it was part of the overall event experience.” commented Julie.

Overall ALEA couldn’t be happier with the outcomes and are keen to use the Entegy app again for future events.
“The app was very easy to use. The download and log-in process were straight forward and the app itself easy to navigate around and intuitive. The continuation of the conference banding in the app was fantastic. It looked great and was visually clear that it was part of the overall event experience.” noted Julie.
